Elevators have been around since the 1800’s. In 1950 the first “no operator” elevator came into service. Imagine, prior to elevators people walked up the stairs. Granted they were not skyscrapers, but they did have 3 floors, maybe even a couple more. In 2013, a 47-story building was built without an elevator.
When I boarded the elevator in my hotel this morning to take me down so I could go to work, I began thinking. Life is good, right? You hop on an elevator, up or down you go. No need to walk up four stories with those sore knees. When an elevator does not work, or the smoke detectors go off in the middle of the night, we get mad. It can ruin your mood.
What do elevators have to do with Lightspeed? It is about choice. You can choose to walk up and down those stairs every day, struggling with bags and groceries, bad knees or back, or you can get on that elevator and enjoy the ride. Lightspeed is like the elevator, you can take an easy ride, or you can struggle day in and day out.
Training is key to any Dealer Management System (DMS). You need to learn to use the system for the ride to be smooth. There are different levels and types of training. When you first implement Lightspeed there is online 24/7 training and virtual training. (This is great for new employee training as well). This training is a must and critical to a dealer’s success. I know when I visit a new dealership, I can tell who has done their training and who has not. On-Site training is designed to take you to the next level and not to teach you the basics.
Once a dealership has done the basics and has been using the system for a bit they have other alternatives for training, speak to your salesperson. Every dealership should have an on-going training program. Someone should be reading release notes and sharing their knowledge with others or giving them the information needed for their department.
