The great outdoors is calling, and thanks to the Expanding Public Lands Outdoor Recreation Experiences (EXPLORE) Act, more Americans than ever will be able to answer. As a proud member of an RV Industry Association (RVIA) committee and part of the Lightspeed team, I’ve seen firsthand the teamwork, dedication, and passion that goes into supporting important legislation like this. The efforts of RVIA, the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable, and many industry partners have pushed forward policies that improve access, support local economies, and expand outdoor recreation opportunities across the country.
The EXPLORE Act is the first outdoor recreation-focused legislative package, and it achieves its goals without costing taxpayers. It tackles key challenges facing RV dealers, offering solutions that will boost local economies, improve public land access, and ensure these spaces are enjoyed for years to come.
The Act invests in outdoor recreation infrastructure and policies, creating jobs in rural communities where tourism is a key economic driver. It removes barriers and improves access to national parks, forests, and other public spaces, making outdoor adventures easier for everyone. Outdoor recreation has proven physical and mental health benefits, and this Act ensures more people can enjoy those benefits. Additionally, it supports small businesses in towns near outdoor destinations, helping them thrive. By responsibly extending federal land seasons, the Act creates more opportunities for RV camping and reduces overcrowding during peak times. Partnerships will help update campgrounds on federal lands, improving facilities while protecting natural spaces. Reliable broadband and Wi-Fi at front-country campgrounds will also enhance safety and meet visitors’ expectations.
A Personal Perspective on Advocacy and Progress
Being part of the RVIA Market Information Committee has given me insight into how advocacy shapes real change in our industry. The EXPLORE Act isn’t just a legislative win—it’s a shared vision for the future of outdoor recreation. I have also had the opportunity to connect with fellow RV Professionals while attending the Leadership Conference and RVs Move America Week in Washington, DC as we continue to help the RV industry.
At Lightspeed, we know how important technology and data are in supporting outdoor recreation businesses. Our tools help dealerships run smoothly and meet the growing demand created by initiatives like the EXPLORE Act.
We’re proud to stand alongside the RV Industry Association and all the advocates who worked hard to make the EXPLORE Act a reality. Together, we’re ensuring that outdoor spaces remain open, sustainable, and welcoming for everyone.
